Rescuers searching for 10 mountaineers who went missing in Pakistan after an avalanche on Broad Peak, one of the world’s highest mountains, recovered four bodies on Friday, the authorities said.
One of the victims was Nadhira Alharthy, one of Oman’s most successful mountaineers, according to Pakistan’s mountaineering body and the company that organized the expedition that she was on. Another was Pur Bahadur Gurung, who was part of a separate team being led by the British-Nepali climber Nirmal Purja.
The identities of the two other recovered climbers are not yet public. The rescue operation had been suspended as of Friday evening and would resume on Saturday, according to Faisal Pirzada, the top home affairs official for Gilgit-Baltistan, the region where Broad Peak is located.
In addition to Mr. Purja and Ms. Alharthy, the missing climbers included Sohail Sakhi, a renowned Pakistani alpinist who was guiding an American, Mallory Geis.
