Crude oil prices shoot up after Red Sea joins Strait of Hormuz as Iran war’s second choke point – Fox News

The U.S. completed a 13th straight night of attacks on Iran following a series of Houthi rocket strikes on Saudi Arabian vessels in the Red Sea after Iranian hardliners helped deliver weapons and training to Yemen.

WHAT TO KNOW

  • President Donald Trump reportedly told Axios on Thursday that he’s “considering a massive attack” on Iran that’s “bigger than ever before,” adding that he had not yet reached a decision but Israel “would join in two minutes if I ask them to.”
  • Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in the Philippines on Thursday that Trump is pursuing “a head for an eye” policy with Iran, adding that the regime will “pay a very heavy price” and is “begging” the U.S. to a make another deal.
  • The U.S. military surged additional assets into the Middle East, including fighter jets, troops and support personnel, and employed a B-1 long-range bomber in combat operations against Iran earlier this week.
  • Brent crude oil prices surged above $100 a barrel after Iran-backed Houthi terrorists in Yemen attacked two Saudi Arabian oil tankers in the Red Sea, fueling fears of further disruptions to global oil supplies.
  • Three U.S. service members were killed in an Iranian missile and drone attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan on July 17. A fourth U.S. service member was killed the following day in Iraq during the controlled detonation of a downed Iranian drone.
